Interior House Painting Process
With over 5 generations of interior painting experience, our team is well prepared and knowledgeable on quickly completing projects with the upmost quality.
Step 1 - Color Selection
Before we begin, a color consultation with you will determine the color of choice. If you would like to replicate a color already in your home, you can use an old can of paint for reference, or you can take a chip to the paint store. We can help you identify the color palette, the finish, and type of paint with our visualizer tools.
Step 2 - Protecting the Area
We cover the furniture and floors with protective materials. We also protect your floors with drop cloths, ensuring every section of the space is secure. Hardware will be either removed/re-installed or covered. This includes curtain rods, window latches, switch plates and cover plates. Door knobs, thermostats and alarm system hardware will not be removed.
Step 3 - Preparing Surfaces
Our painting team will scrape, patch and sand walls as needed or specified.
- Before applying final coats, we will re-inspect and patch walls as necessary.
- We also will scrape and sand rough areas created by previous paint failure.
- Glossy surfaces and trim will be sanded and cleaned to assure proper
paint adhesion. - We will apply a stain sealer to water and tannin wood stains.
- We will caulk cracks in wood trim and along wall/trim interfaces.
This creates the smooth, clean canvas necessary for a perfect finish.
Step 4 - Applying New Paint
After the areas needing repair in the previous step are primed, our team then applies premium quality paints, as selected, for a consistent finish. There are multiple finish options, including flat, matte, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, and high-gloss, but we will have gone over the benefits of each type of finish with you beforehand.
The time will vary depending on the size of the job, but we will always ensure to work as quickly and efficiently as possible and communicate with you accordingly.
Step 5 - Cleaning Up
We will clean up and vacuum work areas at the end of each day. Debris will be taken away. When the job is completed, unused paint will be labeled and left at the job site. Wallpaper removal: Due to the concealed conditions of existing wall coverings, it may be impossible to estimate the labor of removal and preparation necessary to achieve a properly painted or wallpapered surface. Under normal conditions wall covering can be removed properly without damage to the surface; however, sometimes the substrate has not been sealed properly or other hidden conditions may exist. Due to these factors, added labor and material cost may become necessary.
Step 6 - Walking Through Inspection
After our own inspection, our project manager will walk you through the interior space, giving you the opportunity to review our work and to provide any initial feedback. You may also be contacted for a follow-up customer satisfaction survey so that we know how we lived up to your expectations. Our interior painting projects are designed to last up to 10 years on a properly maintained surface, hopefully you will get to enjoy your beautiful newly painted room for years to come or at least until the next trend sweeps through.
